Valley Travel

A travel assignment turned toward home. Rather than going somewhere far away, this series looks at the Phoenix area the way a visitor would: downtown streets, storefronts and murals, parks and fountains, ballparks and campuses, and the desert at the edge of town. The approach owes a debt to the straightforward color documentary tradition of Stephen Shore, in which ordinary places, photographed plainly and in full daylight, turn out to be worth a second look.
