Western Still Life

Hats, ropes, saddles, bits, and boots: the working tools of Western horsemanship, photographed as still lifes in low, directional light. The series grew out of studio lighting work and a longer commitment to documenting the equestrian arts, including the everyday objects that carry their history, before they slip out of common use. A few portraits bring the people who use these tools into the same quiet, warm light.
